Rotie, in combination with Shanks, will do waste management for Unilever in Belgium and the Netherlands. The contract started on 1 April of this year and (initially) spans three years. Rotie and Shanks will process ca. 15,000 tonnes of waste by Unilever annually.
In September 2009 Unilever introduced the Cleaner Planet Plan, a worldwide initiative that aims to reduce its use of water, waste, CO2 emissions and environmentally damaging raw materials. Unilever wants to reduce its waste with 70 percent by 2020, compared to 1995.
Rotie is the largest independent collection company of used cooking oils in Europe, and a major player in collecting and recycling kitchen waste and organic waste from the food service and food industry.
Shanks is one of the leading environmental businesses in the Netherlands, specialised in waste management and recycling.
