In April 2011 Biodiesel Amsterdam and Rotie received the Better Biofuel Certificate from Control Union Certifications. Rotie recycles used cooking oils, which Biodiesel Amsterdam uses to produce second generation biodiesel. Waste is thus given a new life as clean energy.
Rotie, in combination with Shanks, will do waste management for Unilever in Belgium and the Netherlands. The contract started on 1 April of this year and (initially) spans three years. Rotie and Shanks will process ca. 15,000 tonnes of waste by Unilever annually.
Rotie has started building a new recycling plant at the Greenmills complex in the western harbour area in Amsterdam. Rotie's logistical and recycling activities are expected to be moved from their current location in Lijnden to Greenmills in June 2012.
